After the recent Cup Series race at New Hampshire was postponed because of the rain from a Sunday to Monday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took to his podcast and went on a hilarious rant about the way NASCAR has been handling things in such situations. The race at NHMS was one of the many races this season that have been affected by the rain or the threat of rain.

And Junior pointed to the funny situation that has risen between all the ‘features’ on the Next Gen cars and the cautiousness the governing body takes whenever the clouds begin to pour. Earnhardt even gave a couple of rather hilarious analogies to support his point.

Speaking in a recent episode of his podcast show, the Dale Jr. Download, the Hall of Famer described how the Next Gen cars having features like the windshield wipers and such along with the decisions of the governing body have created a funny situation. “Every damn car has got the windshield wipers. They got this s**t hanging off the back of them, mud flaps for the spray. They got brake lights and all kinds of blinking s**t so they can see each other,” he described.

“What are we doing? It is the silliest thing ever.”

“It’s like the parents that put their kids in bubble wrap. They got all the bells and whistles, prepare for the worst. It’s like we’re so prepared for the worst and not even willing to put the damn car out on the racetrack when it’s raining.”

This led to his co-host Mike Davis asking if he was saying NASCAR has bubble wrapped the sport, and now they’re not even taking advantage of it, something Junior agreed with.

Having explained his bubble-wrap analogy, Earnhardt pointed to the situation he finds “funny as s**t.” He said, “The cars come to the racetrack with all this s**t on. I’m just saying if it’s, look, to make sense of my argument and how humorous this is, every other series that races in the rain, when it’s pouring and there’s standing water, they have a red flag, then they throw a caution, they stop them, whatever.”

“I’m completely sensible in that idea. I’m not saying, ‘NASCAR boy, f*** the monsoon, send them out there.’ But if we retrofit all of this stuff, for racing in the rain, and there is like, it’s like we’re gun shy. It’s like, ‘Yeah we’re ready, but do we really do this?'”

To Earnhardt, NASCAR currently is like that kid who climbs up on the high dive, gets to the end, turns around, and walks by which his co-host deemed the perfect analogy.
